"Leadership is a matter of intelligence, trustworthiness, humaneness, courage and sternness."
-- Sun Tzu
Intelligence: The emphasis is on a leader’s critical thinking ability. Intelligence is the ability to think strategically, anticipate the moves of the competition, and respond quickly to changes.
Trustworthiness: Can this leader be trusted? Do they say what they are going to do and then do what they say? Are they faithful to the company values and mission?
Humaneness: A leader must love and protect the people they are leading – treating them with respect and kindness.
Courage: A leader requires courage to make quick and difficult decisions. A leader’s valor is crucial in inspiring the entire organization and lifting its spirits.
Sternness: Leaders must be able to make difficult, often unpopular decisions. There can be no ambiguity in the chain of command. A leader’s ability to enforce discipline when needed can be the difference between success and failure. The winning leader has a clear management system for rewards, discipline, and performance.
